Gene Simmons was born in Haifa, Israel on 25 August, 1949. When he was just eight years old, he moved to New York City along with his mother. Gene Simmons; father, Ferenc Witz was a Hungarian and worked as a carpenter. After the breakup of his parent’s marriage, his mother alone took responsibility for raising her son. He grew up in poverty and struggled for his day to day survival. He was raised in a Jewish household. He learned how to play the guitar by practising for hours and his interest in music grew over the years. He went to a Jewish school for his primary education and later, he attended a public school when he moved to the US. Gene changed his name to Eugene Klein and later Gene Klein by taking his mother’s maiden name.
