Troy Aikman offered a contract for playing baseball, but he decided to play football. He trained by Barry Switzer in University. In 1989, the player was selected in NFL Draft by Dallas Cowboys. On 26 August 1989, Troy played his first game against Denver Broncos. In his rookie season, Aikman gets injured in the 15th games. The player helps the team to create a 6-4 record in the first ten games. He replaced by Steve Beuerlein in injury. The team finished their season with 12-4 in NFC. On 29 March 1994, head coach Jimmy Johnson leaves the team. Barry Switzer became the new coach of the team.

The player helps the team to win the NFC East Division Title. In 1998, the player missed five games due to injury. Troy played his final season as a professional football player in 2000.
