Tom’s career began when he was 15 years old. He used to perform stand- up comedy in the local clubs at that early age, and later he joined a rap group. In college, Tom was the host of an overnight call-in show on the radio station owned by the Ottawa University. He later teamed up with Glenn Humplik, and they together hosted The Midnight Caller Show. The show aired from 1993 to 1996.

As a musician, Tom was a member of a group called Organized Rhyme. They released a single Check The O.R in the 90s, and in 1998, they released another one by the name of Not The Green Tom Show. Tom started his own television show on Cable TV in 1994. The show aired until 1996. In 1999, his show was picked by MTV, and it became very popular not only in the United States but also in the whole world. Tom’s shock comedy became his trademark, and he became popular.

His popularity led him to get roles in the film industry. He got roles for films like Road Trip, Stealing Harvard, and Freddy Got Fingered. Tom was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and he had to take a break.  He returned to MTV in 2002 with The Tom Green Subway Monkey Hour. The same year he started a production company known as Bob Green Films.

In 2010, Tom wrote, directed and also starred in a film called Prankster.  He also appeared in films like Trailer Park, Seed, and Boys 3.
