In 1960, Ted started his career as a general manager for his father’s business located in Macon, Georgia. In 1963, his father suicide due to bipolar disorder problems. After Turner’s father died, he became Chief Executive Officers and President of Turner Advertising Company. At that time he was only twenty-four years old.

He turned the business into a worldwide enterprise. Turner also attached to Young Republicans. In 1962, his father acquired a competitor who turned the company into a weak financial condition.  After Ted took control of the company, he bought a radio station.

The biggest achievement of Ted was acquiring the biggest advertising company in the South-eastern United States. Later he started purchasing rights of old movies and comedians. It turned into a highly profitable business. In 1986, he founded Goodwill Games, which broadcast events of games. In 1996, the Turner fields were used Summer Olympics. He acquired the MGM/UA Entertainment.

After that, Ted enters into wrestling business by acquiring Jim Crockett Promotions, the name of promotions was changed to World Championship Wrestling. In 2001, it was acquired by World Wrestling Federation. On October 10, 1996, Turner Broadcasting System merged with Time Warner. In 2003, Turner resigned as Time Warner Vice Chairman.
