Professional Life and Career
In 1980, the author became pastor of Greater Emanuel Temple of Fait at the age of 23. The temple is located in a storefront church in Smithers, West Virginia. At that time, the temple has only ten members. After some time, the members grew to 100 members because the church racially integrated.
In 1990, the pastor moved to South Charlestown, and the community grew to 300 members, whereas, in 1993, the pastor moves to Cross Lanes. The congregation joined by more than 800 people making it 1100. The congregation contains 60% African-American and 40% Caucasian. In 1994, the author founded T.D Jakes Ministries as a non-profit organization.
The organization produces televised sermons and conferences. In 1996, Jake also hosted a weekly radio and television show Get Ready. The pastor, his wife, and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. There he established the Potter House, which is a non-denominational Megachurch. The house has a seating capacity of more than 5,000 people.
