Michael Dwayne Vick is a former American football quarterback. Michael featured in 13 seasons in the National Football League, primarily with the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. He loves for the sport started while he was in college at Virginia Tech and was selected by the Falcons as the first overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

During his six years with the Falcons, Vick was regarded as having transformed the quarterback position with his rushing abilities and was named to three Pro Bowls. He holds the record for the most career rushing yards by a quarterback (6,109) and the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season (1,039).

Michael’s mother worked two jobs, obtained public financial assistance and had help from her parents, while his father worked long hours in the shipyards as a sandblaster and spray-painter. Vick first came to prominence while at Homer L. Ferguson High School in Newport News.

As a freshman, he impressed many with his athletic ability; he threw for over 400 yards in a game that year. Later Michel moved to Warwick High School after the closure of Ferguson High School due to a building modernization program. When he turned Pro, Michael has played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Professional Life and Career

Michael Vick was selected first in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons, becoming the first African-American quarterback to be taken with the top pick. He signed a six-year $62 million contract and made his NFL debut against the San Francisco 49ers on September 9, 2001.

Michael made his first start for the Falcons against the Dallas Cowboys on November 11 and threw his first touchdown pass to tight end Alge Crumpler in a 20–13 victory.  During that season, Michel accounted for 234 of Atlanta’s 255 yards in the season finale against the St. Louis Rams on January 6, 2002. In 2002, Vick made 15 starts, missing one game against the New York Giants on October 13 due to a sprained shoulder.

Michael set numerous single-game career highs, including in passes completed, pass attempts and passing yards. Vick also set a then-NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game with 173 against the Minnesota Vikings on December 1, broken by Colin Kaepernick (181) in 2013.

In 2003, Vick suffered a fractured right fibula but returned to form in 2004, passing for 2,313 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In August 2007, hours after Vick pleaded guilty to federal charges in the Bad Newz Kennels dog fighting investigation, the NFL suspended him indefinitely without pay for violating its player conduct policy.

Consequently, Michael was sent to prison. After his release, Vick signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Michael has also played for New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers before retiring on June 12, 2017
