Matt Groening is also the creator of various television series, which include The Simpsons 1989 to present, Futurama, which ran from 1999 till 2003 and 2008 to 2013 and Disenchantment from 2018 to the present day. Currently, the Simpsons is the longest-running U.S. primetime-television series in history and the longest-running U.S. animated series and sitcom.

Matt Groening’s career began in 1977 when he was 23. He moved to Los Angeles to become a writer. During this time, Matt Groening went through what he described as “a series of lousy jobs,” including being an extra in the television movie When Every Day Was the Fourth of July, bussing tables, washing dishes at a nursing home and clerking at the Hollywood Licorice Pizza record store. In 1978, Matt made his first professional cartoon strip titled Forbidden Words, in the avant-garde Wet magazine.

Matt was then employed at the Los Angeles Reader to typeset edit and answer calls. It was while at the Los Angeles Reader that matt showed the editor his cartoon who was impressed, giving him a spot in the paper. Life in Hell made its official debut as a comic strip in the Reader on April 25, 1980. Life in Hell became popular almost immediately. And gave matt prominence and a springboard upon which he launched his career in earnest.
