Macklemore recorded a mixtape titled Open Your Eyes under the name Professor Macklemore in 2000. In 2005, Macklemore released the album The Language of My World in which he dropped the name “Professor.” This album contained the single “Love Song,” which featured Evan Roman.

In 2006, Haggerty first met his future collaborator Ryan Lewis.
