Professional Life and Career

In 1992, Lance Armstrong began his professional with the Motorola Cycling Team and won 10 one-day events and stage races in 1993. However, his crowning glory was the victory in the World Road Race Championship held in Norway.

Over the following few years, He touched great heights, winning the Thrift Drug Classic in 1994, the Clásica de San Sebastián in 1995, and Tour DuPont in 1995 and 1996. He became the first American to win the 1996 La Flèche Wallonne. He finished 6th in the time trial in the 1996 Olympic Games.

Unfortunately, in 1996, Lance was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer and that he underwent extensive treatment and to hi favor, was declared cancer-free in 1997. In 1998, He made his comeback and returned to his passion, cycling. To the surprise of many, he finished fourth in the Vuelta an España.

Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France in July 1999, the sport’s most prestigious race, and he became the second American to do so. There were allegations of him using drugs during this race. He, however, denied the allegations and went on to win six more Tour de France until 2005.

His autobiography ‘It’s Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life,’ a released in 2000. This autobiography covered the events in his life from childhood to the 1999 Tour de France and the birth of his first child. In 2003, he followed-up another one titled ‘Every Second Counts’ was released.

In 2005, he retired from racing but returned to competitive racing in 2009, finishing third in the 2009 Tour de France later that year. In 2011, He retired for a second time.
