Professional Life and Career

On April 12, 2008, in Boxborough, Massachusetts, Jon Jones had a match against Brad Bernard and won in the first round via technical knockout. He later wrestled with Carlos Eduardo on April 29, 2008, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and he won via knock out (punches) in the third round.

He had other matches against Anthony Pina, Ryan Verrett, and Parker Porter, all of which he won. On 12 July 2008, he had his sixth professional match against Moyses Gabin before he joined Ultimate Fighting Championship and defeated Gabin.

In his first match in the UFC 87 on August 9, 2008, in Minneapolis, he was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Later he matched against Stephan Bonnar at UFC 94 on January 31, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and won via unanimous decision.

He faced Jake O’Brien at UFC 100 and won On July 11, 2009.

In 2010, he fought against Brandon Vera and Vladimir Matyushenko and won both matches after which he got his first title opportunity against the then-champion Maurício “Shogun” Rua.

In his career, Jones mentioned that the toughest match was against Swedish fighter Alexander Gustafson at UFC 165, where they both suffered lacerations and facial swelling, and he won by a controversial unanimous decision.

At UFC 172, on April 26, 2014, Jones fought with Glover Teixeira and defeated Teixeira via unanimous decision.

He was not able to match against Anthony Johnson after New Mexico police announced that they were looking for Jones in connection with a hit-and-run incident, which led him to be sentenced for 18 months. Subsequently, he was stripped off his belt indefinitely by the UFC. This happened in early 2015.

After the term, he returned in a fight against Ovince Saint Preux on April 23, 2016, at UFC 197, where he won the bout by unanimous decision.

After a potential drug violation, Jones was taken off the fight and was suspended for a year and stripped of his interim title in November 2016.

At UFC 214, on July 29, 2017, he had a second return and rematches against Cormier, where he regained the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship belt.
