Chris started his career by joining Blizzard Entertainment when he was 19 years old. When he joined the company, he was not aware that it was not a graphic design studio but a video game developing studio. In his debut job, he was the one who provided artwork and character animation for the game by the name of the Justice League Task Force. His following work was also a success in providing artwork, documentation, and all illustrations of the video game Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.
Chris was now becoming an important employee of the company. He became involved in the company’s concept art, manual art as well as illustrations. He gained more popularity in 1995 after he designed Warcraft 11: Tides of Darkness. This opened a door for him to work and design different missions and scenarios of the video game. He was one of the creators of the game Diablo, together with Bill Roper. He as well provided his face in the game.
Metzen, alongside Sam Moore, wrote a short story for the science fiction strategy game by the name of StarCraft. Diablo 11 was released in 2001.
