A New Video Chat Feature in The Facebook App: Messenger Room

Facebook app has now introduced a brand-new feature known as Messenger Room as of 2020. This new feature simply works as the already available services like Skype, Zoom, and Google Meet. The reason why this feature was added by the Facebook app is due to the current situation of the world. The growing cases of coronavirus has made it difficult for people to go out and work. Due to this reason, it has encouraged people to work from home and use video chat more often than ever.

Speaking about the feature, it allows up to 50 people to join the call using either the Facebook app or Messenger. The interesting part of this feature is there are no time limits for the call.

What exactly is Messenger Room?

Messenger Room is simply a room used for video chatting. If you wish to connect with more people, you can share the link of the room with the people you want in the room. Whether the participants are required to download, login, or connect to the Messenger app for joining the call all depends on how you create the settings for your room.

You have two settings while creating a room which are:

  1. People having the link to the room: As long as the participants have the link to the room, they can join the room despite the fact that they don’t have the Facebook account or the Messenger.
  2. People with Facebook only: It’s clear by this point that for joining in the room, you must have a Facebook account.

When you create a room in the Facebook app, you’ll have full control over who will be allowed to see your room. As of now, it’s done, only the people you choose to invite will be able to see the room in the news feed.

Ways to Create the Messenger Room

First thing first, your apps should be of the latest version. Then only you will be able to create the Messenger room. If your Facebook app or Messenger app is not updated, you better update it and follow the following steps to create the room:

STEP 1: Open the Messenger app.

STEP 2: Below at the bottom on the right side of the screen, there is a tab ‘People’. Click the ‘People Tab’.

STEP 3: Choose ‘Create a Room’.

STEP 4: Select the participants you want to add in the room.

STEP 5: Share the link with the people whom you want to add but don’t have a Facebook account.

The room can also be shared in the News Feed or Groups or Events. You do not need to download anything for joining a room as it can simply be joined from your phone or PC.
