RAPHAEL SAADIQ AND ILLFONIC ANNOUNCES FIRST PROJECT, UPCOMING DOWNLOADABLE VIDEO GAME, “GHETTO GOLF.”
IllFonic, founded by Grammy award winning Singer / Songwriter / Producer Raphael Saadiq and engineer virtuoso Chuck Brungardt, announced this week during the E3 Expo, their first project “Ghetto Golf.” Ghetto Golf is an upcoming downloadable multi-platform title that captures a unique blend of satire and action-adventure in a new underground sport established in the ghetto. An idea that originated in Oakland California, where improvising golf holes on the street became a local hobby to Saadiq, currently on tour promoting his critically acclaimed album, “The Way I See It,” released on Columbia Records. With a combined 25 years in the entertainment and software business, Saadiq and Brungardt have earned a level of respect and praise within the industry that cannot be obtained overnight. Their experience and creative force brings an entirely unique and innovative vision to the gaming industry.
Illfonic will deliver a completely new story “Ghetto Golf,” to the video game industry – determined to break boundaries with this innovative game concept, delivering a high quality gaming experience being developed with the intent to release in a digital download format.
A secret society has plotted a course that cuts through a city known for its hostile streets, involving competitors that go against each other and do whatever it takes to win while battling complex holes of golf, gunplay with gangsters and out running cops. Including a new adventure mode, which allow players to immerse themselves in the world’s greatest sporting event like never before.
The adventure mode of Ghetto Golf allows players to experience life, in a highly comedic presentation behind the scenes of the sport. The mode follows the game’s main character, the young protagonist, Vonte, as he tries to win the Ghetto Golf course. The city has one 9-hole course, which is not anywhere near standard golfing rules; a person in the area must reveal each hole, Vonte will have to do favors for people to unlock the holes, making allies along the way. The enemy golfer is Vonte’s biggest challenge. Each hole has a mission, plenty of stories, upgrading items, weapons and golf mechanics. In addition to the adventure mode, Ghetto Golf also offers modes such as ‘Just Golf’, featuring just the golfing mechanics of the game, ‘Golf Gangs’, a multiplayer mode that puts teams of 4 against each other and ‘Team Deathmatch’ – in which teams kill each other within a given time limit. Ghetto Golf has multiple mini games, such as a shooting range, Golf Cart track range and ‘Ghost Ride the Whip’ mini game.
Although some critics may jump at the opportunity to question the game’s ethics, the Illfonic team is determined to cater to an under-exploited market, taking the reigns on a concept that is edgy, ground breaking and brilliant to those who just get it…
Gaining tremendous interest from investors, publishers and media, Illfonic are currently continuing in the development stages of the already playable game, with their small yet All-Star staff of 5 employees. Saadiq, Brungardt, and Lead Designer Kedhrin Gonzalez have been dedicated to expanding and strengthening their relationships within the game industry while being committed to partner with a publisher that fully understand their visions of Ghetto Golf.
From the company’s 50,000 square foot recording and production studio in North Hollywood, CA to its game development studio in Dever, CO, IllFonic has built a team of artists, developers, producers, and musicians that believe providing fun game-play means delivering the highest level of visual awe, an immersive environment, and a killer soundtrack. The talents behind IllFonic bring to the table what they see lacking in the video game industry, right now a seamless interactive experience.
